The Just Metropolis program committee is working to combine the best components of our respective conference traditions - participatory mobile workshops, a diverse selection of workshops that mix practitioners, academics, and activists, provocative plenary sessions, a touch of art and urbanism and plenty of opportunities to meet new and old colleagues alike over a glass of wine.


Wednesday, June 16th

5pm - 6pm Registration Opens. Wurster Hall, UC Berkeley

6pm - 10pm. Opening Celebration and Reception, featuring speakers, performance, debate, discussion, food and more. Location: Wurster Hall Courtyard & International House Auditorium, UC Berkeley.Amercan Sign Language interpreters available


Thursday, June 17th

9am - 4pm. Mobile Workshops will explore progressive planning issues throughout the Bay Area. Meeting locations will be sent to participants after they register.

6pm - 9pm. A Regional Dialogue on Community Planning. Panel discussion and debate on progressive urbanism across the public, for-profit and non-profit sectors. Hosted and sponsored by the Association of Bay Area Governments. Location: MetroCenter, 101 8th Street, Oakland Amercan Sign Language interpreters available


Friday, June 18th

ADPSR’s 2010 Lewis Mumford Awards, an annual awards program to honor people and organizations that exemplify ADPSR's goals of peace, preservation of the natural and built environment, and socially responsible development. Awardees will present highlights of their programs at the awards ceremony. Location: Wurster Hall, UC Berkeley.


Sunday, June 20th

1pm - 5pm. An Urban Game. This free adventure wandering game in the tradition of randonneuring is a challenging but non-competitive journey to multiple urban zones by foot and public transit. It is the first in an series of four events spanning Summer 2010, culminating in a epic 24-hour wandering that will take players all around the Bay Area from skyscrapers to wilderness and from islands to highways.


The committee is open to ideas for special events in conjunction with the conference, especially from local organizations interested in getting involved. Contact Alex Schafran at schafran [at]gmail.com for more information.
